Nábac
is a young Irish band, recently emerged
from the vibrant Galway music scene which
has become so international of late. The
selection of music on their debut CD Siar
Anoir (“West of East”) reflects their diverse worldly influences.
There are tracks stemming from the musical
traditions of Denmark, Spain, Hungary and
even further afield as well as from the
dominant Irish tradition. There is a wonderful
specific “Nábac” sound
to the original material and great variety
in the choice of song. Produced
by Seamie O´Dowd, “Siar Anoir” certainly adds something distinctly new to the pool of traditional Irish music.
Nábac formed just over two years ago
and are now making themselves known for their
down to earth, lively performances. The band
are quickly being snapped up by international
music festivals, already having appeared in
Germany, Austria , Israel, Belgium and Italy
this year. Being a well recognised act
in many of Ireland's great folk venues, the
band is swiftly creating ripples in the musical
scene with a sound that is innovative, varied,
and soulful while staying true to the Irish
traditional sound.
